According to Gartner Research; 20% of businesses will own no IT assets by 2012!
It depends on what you call an IT asset.
Network hardware will still be required; however ownership will have changed to outsourced datacentres, server hosting farms etc.
Here are some other predictions for 2012 and beyond that you may or may not cynically dismiss:-
- Indian-owned or Indian-based companies will represent 20% of the leading cloud aggregators.
- 60% of new PCs total life greenhouse emissions will have occurred before the machine is turned on.
- By 2014, three billion people will be able to transact electronically, either by mobile or the Internet – with more mobile phones accessing the Internet than PCs.
- Most IT business cases will include carbon offsetting by 2014
- Facebook users will exceed a billion by 2012
It all adds up to a different world, but it can be safely predicted that Hardware.com will be in business; working on delivering network hardware solutions to ISPs, Telecos and Datacentres throughout the world.
